Turkish main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) will be temporarily shutting down its Ankara headquarters due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, the party announced on Sept. 11.

“Considering the increasing number of cases and the state of imprudence, it has been seen appropriate for the CHP headquarters personnel to work from home starting on Sept. 14,” an official statement said. “The date of return to the system of regular operations will be determined in parallel with the pandemic’s spread.”

While four CHP officials have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past week, the main opposition said the official numbers released by the Health Ministry do not reflect the truth, which is “known by everyone.”

Main opposition spokesman Faik Öztrak, Deputy Chair Onursal Adıgüzel, CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s lawyer Celal Çelik and Kılıçdaroğlu’s advisor Recep Cengiz were all diagnosed in the past week.
