Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has declared several principles in order to provide press freedom under the CHP government.
“You have my word, we will implement all of them if you give us the mandate on June 24,” said Kılıçdaroğlu, referring to restricting media organization bosses from operating in several industries, preventing monopoly in the distribution sector, unionization of journalists, reorganizing the media watchdog and regulating the advertisement industry.

The CHP was founded on 9 September 1923, about one and half month before the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey. The first President of modern Turkey’s oldest party was M. Kemal Atatürk. Today CHP is a social-democratic party, member of the Socialist International and associate member of the Socialist Group at the European Parliament.
