– We’re always on the side of democracy and will always be”

– It is critical to stand up for every aspect of democracy in Turkey: that includes free speech & secularism

– In the resistance to the coup attempt, once more the importance of a free media has become clear, despite significant pressure on the media freedom in Turkey.

– Democracy is about rule of law, freedoms, independent and impartial judiciary, seperation of powers, freedom of faith and free media. It is also about legitimate right of resistance when the democracy is under attack.

The CHP was founded on 9 September 1923, about one and half month before the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey. The first President of modern Turkey’s oldest party was M. Kemal Atatürk. Today CHP is a social-democratic party, member of the Socialist International and associate member of the Socialist Group at the European Parliament.
